Accurate Diagnosis and
Precise Treatment Helps
Ensure Positive Outcomes

There is an energy and a passion for his specialty that is evident when one meets Tom Hurd, M.D., founder and president of Pain Solutions Treatment Centers in Georgia. He has applied those attributes to build a team of like-minded professionals who believe in an "aggressive and progressive approach to pain management."

"We are patient advocates and our focus is to make an accurate diagnosis and then develop a treatment plan to get the individual back to their lives and back to work," Dr. Hurd told Georgia1st.com during a recent interview. The venue was the annual Georgia Self Insurance Association (GSIA) conference where Pain Solutions was well represented by staff members.

Pain Solutions Treatment Centers diagnose and treat a number of pain conditions and as the company states, "if it hurts, we can help", but it is the care of the spine that Dr. Hurd believes distinguishes his practice. "I believe we are the people who know about the spine," he emphasized.

Every injured worker treated by a Pain Solutions physician receives a thorough examination and a patient history is taken. The patient meets with the doctor and medical staff under the direction of Deborah Leising, RN, Clinical Director.

From that point an individual treatment care plan is developed, with patient involvement, that explores a wide range of non-invasive, non-surgical treatment options. Procedures and services include nerve block therapy, fluoroscopy guided procedures, targeted physical therapy and medical management.

In workers' compensation treatment and care, there is a priority in getting the injured worker scheduled to see the Pain Solutions physician . "They are scheduled as the first appointments of the day and first appointment after lunch," said Dr. Hurd. In addition, case managers and referring physicians are kept in the communication loop.

Workers' Compensation Director, Jessica Tehas, CWCP, is part of the Pain Solution Team and follows up with the patients during and after treatment.

Pain Solutions also focused on education and Tehas goes to the employer to let them know that pain treatment should be one of the first considerations following injury. "We want the employer and referring physicians and case managers to know that we have the capacity to deliver an effective treatment plan that focuses on getting the employee back to work," Dr. Hurd pointed out.

There are three Pain Solutions Treatment Centers in Georgia with a team of five physicians board certified in anesthesia and pain management. Founded by Dr. Hurd in 1997, the Centers have grown to meet the demand for clinical expertise in pain management.

"If you hold yourself up as an expert then you have to find a way to make yourself available to the community you serve," Dr. Hurd concluded.

Ed. Note: Pain Solutions Treatment Centers are located in Marietta, Cartersville and Woodstock, Georgia. The Centers treat all types of pain problems with specialty in spine pain.
