Steve Heinen juggled tennis balls to demonstrate how employers, physicians and the injured worker have to be part of the back to work process.

Employer Has to be Part of Team

Steven Heinen told an audience at the Georgia Self Insurance Association spring conference that the employer has to take responsibility for the culture of the work place and not pass it off to third party administrators. Heinen, who teaches the CWCP classes in Georgia, added that the employees also have to be part of the team, even after they are injured.

He advocated for doctors' panels for employers with a specialty representation that reflects the potential types of case that will be treated. Heinen recommended that every company have someone designated as the return to work coordinator. "Communication is the most important thing, during the course of employment and post injury," he advised.
