Singing Duo Releases CD
Author: | Saturday August 26, 2006
It was natural that a musical family would one day work together, but a bit usual that a spine specialist would be part of the team.
Salsa and the Spine?
Singing Duo Cross Over
In More Ways than One
David H. McCord, M.D., P.C. is well known in the workers' compensation industry in Georgia and across the country as a spine specialist. But it may not be long before he is also receives recognition as a music industry entrepreneur thanks to a business collaboration with Ruben Garcia and Ruben's sister, Sally Garcia.
The brother-sister team, "GarciaGarcia" have just released a new Spanish language song titled "Kaboom" which is receiving good reviews and will be included in the release of their first CD in September. Ruben and Dr. McCord are connected professionally in the medical field. Ruben is the administrator of Dr. McCord's medical practice in Nashville and is also an Orthopaedic Nurse and Orthopaedic Technologist.
"I came to Nashville to pursue my music at the same time that I was continuing my medical career," Garcia told Georgia1st. "I have worked with Dr. McCord for 15 years and we have become good friends," Garcia added.
Ruben's sister, Sally, is also in the music business and, like her brother, a published songwriter, so it was highly probable that one day they would work together. After Dr. McCord watched and listened to Ruben and Sally play their music in the studio he wanted to become part of the endeavor and the three formed Rupik Productions, LLC. Plans call for signing musical acts and producing music videos.
Ruben and Sally were born in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and their musical roots were imprinted early on by their mother who sang with mariachi groups and always had Spanish music playing in the background. GarciaGarcia debuted with the party song, "Me Gusta Salsa with a Little Twang", recorded in both English and Spanish. The debut album will be mostly in Spanish. "There is a tremendous Latino market throughout the United States," Ruben noted, adding that he expected the music to draw crossover audiences.
The compilation on the new CD reportedly features a driving blend of salsa, reggae and cumbia music (with a bit of rock and country) written by GarciaGarcia and recorded in Nashville. "Ruben and Sally bring different genres together with a style that is unlike any other recording act in recent memory," according to Phil and Mark Lister, who are producing the CD. Dr. McCord is President of Red Horse Records under which the new CD will be released.
The duo also wrote a Christmas song about the historic snowfall that hit South Texas on Christmas Eve, 2004. Books have been written about the "miracle" event and Sally thinks recording the song will be not only a lot of fun but will help raise awareness of their music. "We have been told that 30,000 advance copies of the single have been ordered," she said. "It should be a great stocking stuffer," she added with a laugh.
