Georgia Work Comp Professionals hear keynote address from General.
Author: | Monday September 01, 2008
Stan Carter and Susan Carter of the State Board with LTG Russel L. Honore', keynote speaker at the annual Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation Annual Conference in August.
The timing could not have had more of an impact. As Hurricane Gustav was entering the Gulf of Mexico, the man who many believed helped save New Orleans following Hurricane Kartrina three years ago, was addressing an audience at the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation.
Gen. Honore' now is a leader in the Red Cross and told the audience that he knew his next mission after the military was to help America prepare for disasters. As he hovered in a helicopter over the devastation in New Orleans the General came to a realization that he had to help alert the nation.
Using history as an example, Gen. Honore' pointed to storms of the past and noted that in today's cities that consist of high rises with glass windows, disaster is as close as the next major hurricane.
The government has to prepare, the states have to prepare, cities have to prepare and families and individuals have to prepare, he warned.
