The Annual Conference Began with a Proclamation by Gov. Sonny Perdue

Atlanta Chapter of CMSA Conference a Hit

It started off spectacular as our current and past CMSA-Atlanta chapter presidents meet with Governor Sonny Perdue as he signed the Case Management Week proclamation in Georgia.

This year’s Educational Conference was held October 11 at the spacious Georgia International Convention Center located next to the Atlanta Airport.

Carol Lawrimore RN, MSN, CCM, the conference chairperson and chapter President-Elect said she was pleased with the outstanding participation of 150 attendees and 65 vendors.

The committee members and vendors dressed and made special props to accent the country flare making the mood and atmosphere very festive for all. Peter Moran RN-BC, BSN, MS, CCM, immediate past President of CMSA, spoke about the importance of educating the public sector, especially government representatives, regarding the role of case managers.

Several other speakers provided attendees information about not only current case management issues in Stroke, Heart Failure, and Brain Injury, but also on self care topics such as personal safety and relationships.
Linda Ellis, author of The Dash, gave an emotional, touching closing presentation.

There were two special awards presented during the conference. First, the Case Manager of the Year award was given to Pat McCutchen RN-BC, CPHQ, CCM, Pat has long served the chapter for many years including leadership as our current chapter President and past conference chairperson. Her clinical expertise is complex case management. A role she holds at Kaiser Permanente.

The recipient of the second award, Awards of Service Excellence, went to Annelle Covell RN, CCRN, CCM, CLCP. She, too, has long served the chapter including several leadership roles as a past chapter President and currently as our critical Strategic Planning officer. An entrepreneur, she works as a Catastrophic Case Manager and is an inspiration for many colleagues.

A special thanks to this year’s conference sponsors because without them this conference would not be possible: platinum (Advanced Care Transportation, Healthfield Hospice – A Gentiva Company), silver (Medtronic Neuromodulation, Restore Neurobehavioral Center, Roche Labs), and bronze (Global Trans Services Inc, HCR ManorCare, KCI, Kindred Hospital of Atlanta, Regency Hospitals of Central Georgia & South Atlanta). Our last exciting news is a special congratulation goes to Daffany Walker, RN, CCM who won one year free membership to CMSA. We invite everyone to come join us next year in 2009.
