Georgia Work Comp Integrated Claims Management System
Author: | Monday May 11, 2009
With each passing month the ICMS system has move forward to providing fast and accurate workers' compensation claims service.
Integrated Claims Management
System ICMS - Faster,
Friendlier, Easier
By Jan Dillard
Before ICMS, a simple inquiry about claim information might days a week or longer. Today, the same simple inquiry from a registered ICMS user takes only minutes! You don’t need to call the Board. You just login to ICMS, search for the claim number, and the entire file is presented to you! Less than 5 minutes!
If you prefer to talk to a live person, the Board now has a Call Center and there are no lines or wait times. Most answers are available immediately. Faster. Much faster.
Before ICMS, to get the contents of a file it took weeks plus $35 (for a 60 page file). Today, the registered user merely logs on to ICMS. The contents of the entire file are presented. The user can review and print only the pages for which she needs a physical copy. It takes only minutes and costs nothing.
Friendlier. Much friendlier.
Before ICMS, over 40,000 claims were submitted to the Board by Insurers or their representatives. The claim forms had to be filled out by the submitter and mailed to the Board. Today, the same insurer can register with the Board as an EDI Trading partner. That insurer can submit thousands of claim documents overnight. The claim information goes electronically from the Insurer to the Board without anyone touching the data!
Easier. Much easier!
Today, there’s no question that registered ICMS users are finding it faster, friendlier, and easier to get workers’ compensation claim information.
EDI Update
Implementation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) claims submissions continues at the State Board. EDI allows insurers and self-insurers to submit large volumes of data electronically into ICMS as an alternative to sending paper forms.
EDI submissions are for new workers’ compensation claims only. Electronic filing, whether via online web-filing or EDI, will become mandatory for all insurers and self-insurers July 1, 2009.
SBWC welcomes a number of carriers and TPAs who have been approved to the EDI Program. The remainder of Implementation Group 3 organizations continues to test. These are organizations that are not using EDI Claims service vendors. The Board expects to complete this test group soon. If you are unable to meet the test requirements, you must file a Request Form for EDI Test Extension which can be found on the SBWC web site, www.sbwc.georgia.gov ).
Filing Mandate Date - July 1, 2009
The EDI Claims Service Vendors are now being certified to submit transmissions to ICMS. The Board has been testing with several service vendors who will support EDI Release 3 data transmission for individual organizations. Upon successful completion of our tests the vendors will be certified to support many of the licensed carriers and self insured employers in Georgia to implement EDI in anticipation of the Electronic Filing Mandate date of July 1, 2009. Testing with the service vendors is expected to be completed by May 2009. If you are using an EDI vendor, we must have a copy of your agreement with the software vendor or a formal Letter of Intent to use such a vendor.
Atlanta was the site of IAIABC EDI Claims Release 3 Training, March 24-26, 2009. This successful training event offered direct access to the developers of EDI Claims Release 3 and the jurisdiction claims staff. The session was informative and helpful to those who attended. Also, there are plans to offer EDI training at the SAWCA conference in July.
Updates on our Web Site
The Georgia EDI Implementation Tables are available from the SBWC website www.sbwc.georgia.gov) under “EDI Updates”. These tables identify the Georgia implementation of the IAIABC Release 3 Data Elements for claims and are useful for designing a response to the transmission requirements. Also available on the web site are updated Request Forms for EDI Test Extensions as well as EDI Exemption Forms.
In addition, the SBWC is updating the Website to give our customers quick answers and a better understanding of ICMS. These updates will be available by May 2009. Specific items you can now find on the SBWC website include:
• Supplemental Guide on Understanding ICMS and each Tab and Link
• How to Create a New Claim
• How to file a fee Contract
• How to file a 102b/102c
• how to file a form with attachments
• How to file attachments that are non form driven
• Questions and answers
Thanks to all of you who make this system faster, friendlier, easier!
